This is a record of marriages performed in Utah by Elias Smith as taken from his Journals. Smith was Probate Judge of Salt Lake County, Utah Territory, from 1851 to 1884. The marriages were not recorded in Salt Lake County Probate Court minutes probably because most happened in the evenings at Smith’s residence or in other homes in the area rather than at the court building. During this period there was no law in Utah Territory which required marriages to be recorded.

Compiler's notes: Smith noted other marriages in his Journals besides those for which he was officiator. These are not listed here.
