James L. Tanner, Board Member

Biography: James L. Tanner, B.A. Spanish, M.A. Linguistics University of Utah, J.D. ASU.  Experience: James served as a U.S. Army Military Intelligence Officer, After passing the Arizona State Bar Exam, he practiced law for 39 years as a trial attorney. He has served on the board of directors of several corporations and was the owner of an Apple Macintosh software development company and an Apple Retail Store. He and his wife have run a graphic design business for the past 30 years first called Tanner Computer Services and then Tanner Digital Graphics. He is a life-time certified Instructor in the Arizona Community College System and taught at various Maricopa County Community Colleges for five years. He has 32 years of experience in genealogical research. He is an author and a well-known blogger on Genealogy’s Star and Rejoice, and Be Exceeding Glad… James has been a presenter and instructor at the Mesa FamilySearch Library for the past eight years and he presented at RootsTech in 2012, 2013 and 2014.  He has also presented at many other seminars and conferences around the United States. James is a member of the FamilySearch Research Wiki Support Team. James is fluent in Spanish and has done extensive Spanish genealogical research.
